The scriptures are inspired.
1. We believe in the verbal inspiration of the Bible, both the Old and New Testament. By this inspiration we mean the divine influence of the Holy Spirit upon the minds of the writers of the sacred books of the Bible by which they were able to record divine truth without any error. (2 Timothy 3:16- 17, Hebrews 4:12; I Peter 1:23-25; 2 Peter 1:19-21).The Bible is the Mind of Christ, and, the only infallible and authoritative Word of God.
2. Biblical Authority: The inspiration of Scripture gives them the place of highest authority in matters of faith, doctrine and practical truths for living. Biblical authority and the practical application of Biblical truth are a core value of Covenant Believers Family Church.\
Every word of God contains sufficient power within itself to bring itself to pass in your life when acted upon by you in faith.
We believe in one Godhead revealed in three persons; the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit (Matthew 3.16, 17, 28:29; John 17) The Scriptures are clear that there is but one God (Deuteronomy 6:4); the Scriptures are also equally clear that the Father, Son and Holy Spirit are personally distinct from each other, yet each is equally divine Therefore, in the Godhead there are three distinct divine persons who possess one and the same divine essence, nature or deity. There is God manifested in three (3) personalities: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. (1 John 5:7, Gen. 1:26)
We believe that Jesus is God come in the flesh and He is both Divine and Human (Luke 1:26-38); John 14:1-3; Acts 2:36;3:14, 15; Philippians 2:5-12. Jesus Christ is the eternal Word of God, Son of God, who became flesh (John 1:1,14) The Son of God possessed absolute divinity from eternity and also united with a human nature when conceived by the Holy Spirit in the womb of the virgin, Mary. Therefore, Jesus is a divine person — the Son of God — who possesses both complete divinity and complete humanity.
We believe in the saving power of the Blood of Jesus and His imputed righteousness (Acts 4.12, Romans 4.1-9, 511; Ephesians 1:3-14). The penalty for sin is death (Genesis 2:17; 3:19). Therefore, reconciliation (atonement) of the sinner requires that a death take place. The shedding of blood is both proof and expression of the death required (Hebrews 9:22). The “Blood of Jesus” refers to Jesus’ Calvary sacrifice from which grace, life, healing and delivering power comes to the believer. When the sinner repents and believes (trusts) in Jesus’ sacrifice on his behalf, receiving Jesus as his personal Savior, righteousness (right relationship with God) is freely given (imputed) to him. This act on the part of God is known as justification (Romans8:33).
We believe in the bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ (Luke 24:39-43; John 20:24-29). This is a unique and central truth of the Christian faith. Paul said if Christ is not risen from the dead, our faith is futile and we’re still in our sins (1 Corinthians15:17). The resurrection of Jesus is the great and final proof that He is the Son of God. His words are absolute truth. He has truly conquered sin and death (1 Cor. 15:21-22) and those who believe in Him will be raised from death to heavenly glory (1 Corinthians 15: 35-49).
We believe that Christ Jesus ascended to the Father and is presently engaged in building Heaven and interceding for the saints (John 14:1-6; Romans 8:34; Hebrews 7:25). Jesus ascended, or went up, into Heaven forty days after His resurrection from the dead, after giving final instructions to His disciples (Acts 13,9-11). With His Ascension came the promise that He would return one day from Heaven. In the meantime, the Church would be empowered by the Holy Spirit; His presence would be multiplied in every believer who would preach His Gospel and do His works among men until the end of the world.
We believe in the visible, bodily return of Christ Jesus to the earth to rapture His Church (Bride) and judge the worlds (Acts 1:10-11; 1 Thessalonians 4: 13-18; 2 Thessalonians 1:7-10, James 5:8; Revelations 1:7). Man, his fall and redemption speaks clearly of the fact that Jesus is coming again. The Church will be “caught up” (Rapture)… in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air (I Thess. 4:17). Whether, this takes place before, in the middle, or at the end of the seven-year Tribulation period continues to be a matter of theological discussion. We hold a pre-tribulation Rapture view. At the end of the Tribulation, the Second Coming of Christ to earth will take place. He will come, with His army of saints, as King of Kings and Lord of Lords to defeat His enemies, including the Antichrist, at Armageddon. Then, Satan will be bound and Jesus will establish His millennial (1000-year) reign upon the earth (Revelation 20:1-10).
We believe that the terms of salvation by grace are repentance toward God, forsaking sin, and a personal, heartfelt faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, which results in regeneration of the person. This salvation is entirely by the grace of our Lord and not of works. Works are excluded except as the fruit of salvation (Acts 3:19,20; Romans 4:1-5; 5:1; Ephesians 2:8-10; 2 Timothy3:15; Galatians 2:16). Salvation is a matter of having a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ. It is a matter of consciously and intentionally receiving Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior through faith (John 1:12; Romans 10:9-10). Salvation is a matter of being “born again” (John 3:3). This rebirth takes place within the human spirit where the Triune God comes to live. Then begins the process of sanctification by the Holy Spirit through which the believer, who has already been declared righteous before God (justification) is formed more and more into the likeness of Jesus Christ (Romans 8:29;2 Corinthians 3:18).
We believe the Scriptures clearly set forth the doctrines of eternal punishment for the non-believers and eternal bliss and service for the saved—Hell for the unsaved and Heaven for the saved (Matthew 25:34, 41, 46; Luke 16:19-31; John 14:1-3; Revelation 20:11-15). The Bible speaks clearly of a literal Heaven and a literal Hell. John had a vision of those who were in Heaven (Revelation 7:9-17). John was also given a physical description of Heaven, the New Jerusalem (Revelation 21:9-27). Hell is variously described as a place of fire (Matthew 5:22); a place of weeping and gnashing of teeth (Matt. 24:51); a place of gloomy dungeons (2 Peter 2:4); a lake of fire (Revelation 20:15); the fiery lake of burning sulfur (Revelation 21:8). The reality of Satan and his present control over unregenerate man does exist.
We believe the Holy Spirit to be the third person of the Trinity. His purpose in the redemption of man is to convict them of sin, regenerate the repentant believer, guide the believer into all truth, indwell and give gifts for believers as He wills that they may minister as Christ would to men. We believe that the manifestations of the Holy Spirit recorded in I Corinthians 12:8-11 shall operate in present day churches that yield to the Lord Jesus Christ (Luke 11:13; John 7:37-39; 14:16-17; 16:7-14; Acts 2:38-39).
We believe that the Baptism of the Holy Spirit and speaking with other tongues as the Spirit gives utterance is for all believers as promised by John the Baptist (Matthew 3:11) and Jesus (Acts 1:4, 5, 8) and Peter (Acts 2:38-41). This was witnessed by the early Disciples of Christ (Acts 2:4, 8:14-17, 10:44-47; 19:1-6), and is evidenced by many present-day disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ. We believe the Baptism in the Holy Spirit refers to being full of the Holy Spirit (Luke 4:1; Acts 6:3, 5; 7:55). The Baptism in the Holy Spirit is not necessary for salvation, but it is a gift available to every saved or born again person to supernaturally empower him for the Christian life and ministry (Acts 1:8).
We believe that God uses doctors, medicines, and other material as a means of healing. Divine healing was also provided for in the atonement (Isaiah 53:5). Divine healing can be appropriated by lying on of hands by elders (James 5:14-16A), laying on of hands by the believers (Mark 16:18), by the prayer of an anointed person gifted for healing the sick (1 Corinthians 12:9), or by a direct act of receiving this provision by faith (Mark 11:23).
We believe we exist to reach out to our world with the good news of Jesus Christ. We believe we must begin in our “Jerusalem” and then move out unto the entire world. We believe the Great Commandment is not the great suggestion. As a church we endeavor to reach out to our community using various methods and means. However we believe we need to major on expressing God’s love in practical ways to reveal the great love of God for man. (Matt28:18-19).
Disciple making is a doctrine of the New Testament. Jesus commanded us in Matthew 28:19 to “go and make disciples of all nations.” Jesus defined the goal of discipling when He said, “A student is not above his teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like his teacher” (Luke 6:40). Christ-likeness, not simply knowledge, is the goal at Liberty Church. And likeness to Jesus Himself is the goal God has for you and me (Romans 8:29; 1 John 3:2). Although complete likeness to Jesus awaits our resurrection, even now God is actively at work within believers. We “are being transformed into His [Jesus’] likeness with ever-increasing glory” (2 Corinthians 3:18). A number of New Testament passages give insight into the processes that are involved in individual and community growth toward Christ-likeness (e.g., Ephesians 4:11-16).
Because Christ is at the center of every believer’s life, all believers are inevitably joined to the same center. Just as the human body unites all its parts into one living organism, so Christ brings believers into the oneness of the Church. The Church is the Body of Christ in the world. “We who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given us” (Romans 12:5-6). That very same oneness is what requires the functional participation of all its members in the Church’s life and ministry, on the basis of their gifting and never in consideration of race, social status etc. Scripture teaches that oneness is more central to a Christian’s identity as a member of the body of Christ than his or her racial, class or gender. The oneness of the community is central to the true definition of the church (l Corinthians 12:4-26, Ephesians 4:4-7, Acts 2:42). The Church is the Body of Christ, the habitation of God through the Spirit with divine appointments of the fulfillment of her great commission each believer born of the Spirit is an integral part of the assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven. (Eph.1:22, 2:19-22, Heb. 12:23)
We believe that the two ordinances of the Church are Water Baptism and the Lord’s Supper.
WATER BAPTISM
It is a symbol of identification with Christ in His death, burial and resurrection. Water baptism graphically demonstrates what has already happened to us at the time of our salvation by grace through faith. Also, it is a public testimony of our personal identification with Jesus Christ. Water baptism is very important inasmuch as Jesus commanded it and so it is important to Him that we so acknowledge Him before men. When Jesus or Peter spoke of being baptized “in the Name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit,” or “in the Name of Jesus,” they were not giving special formulas to make the baptism valid. They were speaking of the authority by which the believer is to be baptized. A water baptism service is held the firstSunday of each month. (Matthew 3:15-16; 28:19, 20; Acts 8:38 😉
Communion or the Lord’s Supper is a memorial; a service of remembrance. It is a regular time that as believers we return to the “cross” and remember who Jesus was and what He did for us through His broken body and spilled blood. It is a time of redirection, repentance, and cleansing in the life of the believer. On the night before He died, Jesus established a memorial as to how God delivered mankind from the slavery of sin, even as the Hebrew Passover meal was to be an everlasting remembrance as to how God delivered His people from the slavery of Egypt. The sacrificial lamb of the Passover meal was a prophetic picture of Jesus, Lamb of God, who gave His life for the deliverance of His people. When Jesus spoke of the unleavened bread and the wine of the supper as His body and blood he was speaking figuratively and He was referring to His coming sacrifice and the need to be identified with it. When we participate in the Lord’s Supper in good faith, we identify ourselves and our needs with His Calvary sacrifice and we trust Him to respond with His manifold graces, including His special
